The standard domain transfer method does not apply to .UK domain extensions. Instead, you transfer these domains by updating the IPS tag and disabling the registrar lock. This article lists the affected extensions and walks you through both steps.
Note: If the domain has expired, you need to contact support to update the tag.
Affected domain extensions
The following TLDs can only be transferred by unlocking the domain and supplying the new IPS tag.

Step 1: Disable the registrar lock
You can disable the registrar lock from within your account, or by using the API if you are a reseller.
- Select Domains from the top toolbar and choose My domains from the drop-down menu.
- Click the domain name you are working with.
- Choose General settings from the domain overview page or from the Manage domain dropdown.
- Set the Registrar-Lock status to Disable and press Save.
Step 2: Update the IPS tag
Your new domain registrar must provide their IPS tag so you can transfer the domain. You can also view the official Nominet list of registrar tags.
Warning: Updating the IPS tag cannot be undone.
- Select Domains from the top toolbar and choose My domains from the drop-down menu.
- Click the domain name you are working with.
- Choose General settings from the Domain overview page or Manage domain dropdown.
- Enter the new registrar IPS tag and press Send.
- Once the IPS tag is updated, initiate the transfer with the gaining registrar.
