Manage ID Protect WHOIS Privacy

ID Protect WHOIS Privacy is a value-added service that replaces the contact details visible in a WHOIS lookup with placeholder information. This article explains how to purchase, enable, disable, and renew ID Protect, and how registrant email forwarding works.

How ID Protect works

Enom is GDPR-compliant, so most domain contact information is redacted in a public WHOIS lookup by default. Certain TLDs do not allow privacy protection of any kind. Accredited third parties can still view a domain's contact details in a gated WHOIS lookup. ID Protect replaces the contact information in both the public and gated WHOIS lookups with placeholder data.

Note: If your domain was registered through Google, enable or disable ID Protect through the Contact information page in the access.enom.com portal.

Purchasing ID Protect

There are multiple methods for adding ID Protect to domains in an Enom account. Make sure you are signed in to your Enom account before you start.

Single domain purchase

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Select Security > ID Protect > Overview.
  3. Click Get started on the next page.
  4. Search for or select the domain you want, then click Continue.
  5. Review the items in the cart and add any extra years to the service.
  6. Click Checkout now, then Submit order after reviewing the items and quantities.

Bulk domain purchase

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Click Domains > Bulk tools > Bulk add ID Protect.

    Note: For Enom Central accounts, choose Bulk add next to ID Protect on the next page.

  3. Enter the domain names you want to add ID Protect to in the domain list, then click Add to Cart.

  4. Click Go to my cart.
  5. Add additional years to the service if desired, then click Checkout now and Submit order on the next page.

Enabling or disabling ID Protect

The instructions below are for Enom and Enom Central accounts.

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Select Domains > My Domains.
  3. Click your domain name.

    Note: If your domain is not under the Registered section, check the Expired section.

  4. Choose Contact information from the Manage domain dropdown.

  5. Click Edit your ID Protect settings.
  6. Choose Protected or Unprotected, then click Save changes.

Renewing ID Protect

Manual renewal

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Select Domains > My domains.
  3. Click your domain name.

    Note: If your domain is not under the Registered section, check the Expired section.

  4. Choose Contact information from the Manage domain dropdown.

  5. Click Edit your ID Protect settings.
  6. Select Add years.
  7. Review the items in the cart and add more years if preferred.
  8. Click Checkout now, then Submit order.

Automatic renewal

Automatic renewals occur 30 days before the service expiry date. If the system has already attempted an automatic renewal that failed, manually renew the service to ensure it stays active.

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Select Domains > My domains.
  3. Click your domain name.

    Note: If your domain is not under the Registered section, check the Expired section.

  4. Choose Contact information from the Manage domain dropdown.

  5. Click Edit your ID Protect settings.
  6. Check the box next to Attempt to auto-renew ID Protect for this domain 30 days before they expire.
  7. Click Save changes.

Registrant email forwarding

Enom forwards emails sent to the address listed on the ID Protected domain (for example, EMDIWJQ@whoisprivacyprotect.com) to the registrant email address. Emails are forwarded to the registrant email only, not the admin, tech, or billing email addresses. The ID Protect email address is changed several times a year to prevent spam.
