Improve Email Deliverability for Enom Email

Whether you send or receive email, certain best practices help your messages reach your recipient's inbox without being filtered out as spam. This article covers sender naming, subject lines, content, IP and domain reputation, SPF authentication, and managing spam.

Use a recognizable sender name

Send email from an address that contains your name with your brand name so recipients recognize you. In the sea of emails they receive every day, people prefer to open those that include a personal name in the From box rather than an impersonal, generic one.

Write effective subject lines

A good subject line contains between 30 and 50 characters, including spaces. It creates a sense of urgency while giving readers an indication of what to expect when they open the email.

Avoid the following in a subject line:

  • Spammy keywords (urgent, buy now, win, free)
  • All uppercase letters
  • Typos
  • Overuse of emojis
  • Deceptive subject lines that do not match the email content
  • Decorative fonts and colors

Avoid spam content

When an email provider receives an email, it scans the content for spam indicators. This filter looks for specific types of content that typically indicate spam. Avoid the points below to pass through this step.

  • Writing in all caps
  • Using too much punctuation (do not write ten exclamation points in a row)
  • Using red font
  • Overuse of spam words (free, cheap, pre-approved, $$$, 100% free, urgent, don't wait, and similar)
  • HTML errors

Check your IP reputation

If your IP address has a bad reputation, your targeted emails are more likely to land in the spam folder. The reputation of your IP address directly affects your email deliverability rates.

Tools such as MXToolbox let you check whether you are a blocklisted sender. Enter the IP address or domain name in the box and click check.

Authenticate with SPF

Authenticate your domain with an SPF record. The Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is email authentication that prevents spammers from sending messages that appear to come from your domain.

Your email hosting service provides the SPF record you need to enter. If Enom is your email provider, the following SPF record is automatically entered into your host records:

v=spf1 include:_spf.emfwd.name-services.com MX ?all

Maintain your domain reputation

ISPs track the reputation of individual sender domains. While the importance of sender domain reputation has increased, the IP pools used through your provider still affect the deliverability of your content. Your domain reputation is more important than ever and is your responsibility to maintain. Switching email providers or marketing automation platforms does not remove damage inflicted on your domain reputation by poor sending. That damage follows you regardless of which provider you choose.

Scan your site for malware or viruses regularly, as malware is often behind a blocklisting. If you have a problem with the operating system, repair any issues and perform updates as needed.

Manage spam

Manually marking an email as spam

Marking an email as spam reports various elements of the email, such as the sender, email headers, and email contents, to the email server. The spam filter incorporates these elements and filters out future emails that are similar.

Any message marked as spam and sent to your spam folder is deleted after 30 days. For this reason, review the contents of your spam folder occasionally.

Reporting legitimate marketing emails as spam is ineffective, since they are considered a trusted sender. Unsubscribing from their mailing list prevents future marketing emails.

Note: Marking an email as not spam teaches the spam filter which kinds of emails are considered safe.

  1. Mark the email as Spam.
  2. Click Accept to confirm the selected email as spam.

Note: If you confirm that you want to share your data with our spam partner, the pop-up goes away and you are not prompted to make a selection going forward. If you decline, the pop-up appears each time you mark an email as spam.
