Whether you can cancel an SSL certificate yourself or need to contact Enom Support depends on two things: whether the certificate has been issued yet, and which certificate authority (CA) issued it. This article explains the difference between canceling a not-yet-issued certificate and revoking an issued one, and where the process changes per CA.
Cancel before issuance vs. revoke after issuance
A certificate that you have purchased but that has not yet been issued can be canceled from your account in most cases. Once a certificate has been issued, ending it is a revocation and is handled by Enom Support. Sectigo certificates are always handled through Support regardless of status.
Before you begin
- Have the certificate's Order ID ready. You can find it on the certificate details page under Security > SSL Certificates > Manage.
- Confirm the certificate's current Status (for example, not configured, pending, or issued) on the same details page.
Step 1: Cancel a not-yet-issued certificate
For GeoTrust, RapidSSL, and DigiCert certificates that have not yet been issued, you can cancel directly in your account:
- Log in to your account and navigate to Security > SSL Certificates > Manage.
- Select the certificate you want to cancel to open its details page.
- Click Cancel & modify settings.
Sectigo certificates cannot be canceled this way. For any Sectigo certificate, follow Step 2 and contact Enom Support.
Step 2: Revoke an issued certificate
If the certificate's status is shown as issued, or if it is a Sectigo certificate at any status, contact Enom Support to request cancellation or revocation:
- Open a support ticket with Enom Support.
- Include your request to cancel or revoke the certificate.
- Include the certificate's Order ID number.
Revoking an issued certificate invalidates it. Any website using that certificate will show untrusted-connection errors until a replacement certificate is installed.
Per-CA differences
Certificate authority | Not yet issued | Issued |
|---|---|---|
| DigiCert | Self-serve via Cancel & modify settings. | Contact Support with the Order ID. |
| GeoTrust | Self-serve via Cancel & modify settings. | Contact Support with the Order ID. |
| RapidSSL | Self-serve via Cancel & modify settings. | Contact Support with the Order ID. |
| Sectigo | Contact Support (no self-serve cancel). | Contact Support with the Order ID. |
