Buying Premium Domains at Enom

Premium domains are short, memorable, keyword-rich names that sell for more than a standard registration. They help your customers strengthen their brand, SEO, and marketability. This article explains the two kinds of premium domains, how their pricing and renewals differ, and how to find and buy one through Enom.

What premium domains are

There are two categories of premium domain, and they behave differently when it comes to pricing, renewal, and transfer:

TypeHow it worksRenewal & transfer
Registry premiumThe TLD registry designates a high-value, currently unregistered domain as premium and sells it above the standard price. Prices range from about $30 to thousands.May have a premium renewal and/or transfer price set by the registry.
Aftermarket premiumThe domain is already registered by an owner who is willing to sell it. The purchase price is set by the current registrant.Renews and transfers at the standard price for the TLD.

For both types, you set your own margin on the purchase price to determine what your customer pays.

Step 1: Find or search for a premium domain

  1. Sign in to your Enom control panel.
  2. Search for the domain name your customer wants. Premium results — registry or aftermarket — are flagged with their premium price.

Step 2: Purchase the premium domain

  1. Select the premium domain you want to buy.
  2. Review the purchase price and any premium renewal price before you confirm.
  3. Complete the purchase. Payment method may depend on the price: Enom's published guidance indicates premium domains up to $15,000 can be paid by credit card, while those $15,000 and over require wire transfer (resellers may also pay from account balance).

A registry premium domain may renew and/or transfer at a premium price set by the registry, not the standard TLD price. An aftermarket premium domain renews and transfers at the standard TLD price. Confirm the renewal price with your customer before purchase so there are no surprises at renewal.
