Pre-configuring a domain

When registering a new domain, depending on the TLD, it may require pre-configuration in order to complete the registration process. These domains can include TLDs that have registration requirements, such as ccTLDs with residency restrictions. Details can be found on our TLD reference chart.

  1. Once signed into your account, select Domains followed by Register a domain or use the search bar labeled Register a domain.

Failed registration

All new domain registrations will have the contact information checked. Failed orders will generate an order ID, but will not be completed successfully. Because of this, you will see a pre-auth on the credit card from the failed order, this may look like a charge. To prevent your card from receiving multiple pre-authorizations from failed orders, please verify your registrant and administrative contact information is valid before submitting your order. You might automatically register the domain using your account contact information if you did not enter any contact information. In this case, the registration will also fail if the Account Contact information is invalid.

The following three checks will be performed:

  • Valid phone number format based on the selected country.
  • Valid email address format (contains an @, domain name, and no invalid characters).
  • Valid zip/postal code format based on the selected country.

If any of these are not valid in the domain registration, the order processing will fail even if it was submitted successfully.
