Register a Domain Name with Enom

Once your account is created, you can begin registering your domains. The process and prices for registration vary depending on the domain name and the TLD. This article covers a standard registration, the extra pre-configuration some TLDs require, and what to check if a registration fails.

Before you begin

  • An active Enom account. You must be signed in to search for and register a domain.
  • Valid contact information. Your registrant and administrative contact details must be valid, or the registration will fail. See the failed registration section below.
  • TLD requirements. Some TLDs, such as ccTLDs with residency restrictions, require pre-configuration. Check the TLD reference chart for the domain you want.

Registering a domain

Follow these steps to register a standard domain.

  1. Once signed in, select Domains followed by Register a domain, or use the search bar labeled Register a domain.
  2. Enter the domain name and click Search.
  3. Confirm the domain is available, then select Add to cart.
  4. Navigate to your Shopping cart.
  5. Select Checkout now.
  6. Review your order, then select Submit order.

Pre-configuring a domain

Some TLDs require pre-configuration to complete registration, including TLDs with registration requirements such as ccTLDs with residency restrictions. Find the details on the TLD reference chart.

  1. Once signed into your account, select Domains followed by Register a domain, or use the search bar labeled Register a domain.
  2. Enter the domain name and click Search.
  3. Confirm the domain is available, then select Add to cart.
  4. Navigate to your Shopping cart.
  5. Select the Pre-configuration icon to set the registrant information for the domain.
  6. Select the contact information.
  7. Once set, select Save my settings.
  8. Proceed to Check out.
  9. Select Submit order to complete registration.

Failed registration

The contact information is checked on all new domain registrations. A failed order generates an order ID but does not complete successfully. A failed order places a pre-authorization on the credit card, which may look like a charge. To prevent your card from receiving multiple pre-authorizations from failed orders, verify that your registrant and administrative contact information is valid before submitting your order. If you do not enter any contact information, the domain may register automatically using your account contact information; in that case, the registration also fails if the account contact information is invalid.

The following three checks are performed:

  • Valid phone number format based on the selected country.
  • Valid email address format (contains an @, a domain name, and no invalid characters).
  • Valid zip/postal code format based on the selected country.

If any of these are not valid in the domain registration, order processing fails even if the order was submitted successfully.
